Sample Cover Letter - Internship I

Dear Mr. Wyle,

Please accept my enthusiastic application for the position of summer nanny for your two children, Tara and Taylor. As soon as I saw your advertisement on Nannies4hire.com, I knew I was the perfect candidate for the position. I believe my experience working with elementary school children, my tutoring background, and my knowledge of arts and crafts would make me an excellent nanny for your daughters.

You state in your advertisement that your children are in first and third grade. I have extensive experience working with children around these ages. As a camp counselor for two summers, I worked primarily with groups of seven-year-olds. I have a strong understanding of the general abilities and interests of children at this age. I also lead weekly arts and crafts lessons for children between the ages of five and twelve. I therefore know what sorts of games and activities would be most appropriate for your children.

You also explain that you want a nanny who will provide some academic instruction for your children. As a tutor for two years, I have a background in teaching information to younger students. I have tutored Spanish in the past, but would love the opportunity to teach your children in any subject you desire.

Finally, I have a strong interest in arts and crafts, and would love to design crafts to create with Tara and Taylor. As a volunteer at a daycare center, the Vice President of my high school’s arts and crafts club, and a camp counselor, I have designed over thirty crafts and led dozens of lessons on how to create these crafts. Many of these activities would be perfect for your children, and would provide them with stimulating entertainment for hours over the summer. My passion for working with children, my tutoring experience, and my love of arts and crafts would make me an excellent nanny for your two children. I have enclosed my resume, and will call within the next week to see if we might arrange a time to speak together. Thank you so much for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Isabelle Thatcher 105 Belleview Ave. Chicopee, MA 01013 c: 413-323-1133  e: isthatcher@email.com

Sample Cover Letter - Internship II

Dear Ms. LastName, I am interested in applying for the scientific research summer internship position that was listed through the Name University Career Services Office. I have had a great deal of laboratory experience in chemistry, biology, and geology, both indoors and in the field. In the lab, I have performed chemical reactions and I am currently using microscopes to observe many specimens. In environmental field studies, I have conducted outdoor labs to assess water chemistry. Last summer, I worked as conservation assistant at Clumber National Park. I am seeking to complement this outdoor experience with a research internship in order to acquire the background necessary for a future career in scientific research. I believe that I would be an asset to your program. This internship would provide me with the ideal opportunity to assist at your organization and to expand my research skills. I will call next week to see if you agree that my qualifications seem to be a match for the position. If so, I hope to schedule an interview at a mutually convenient time. I look forward to speaking with you. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Signature (hard copy letter) FirstName LastName

Sample Cover Letter - Internship III

Dear Hiring Manager,

Please accept my enthusiastic application for the summer season waiter position you recently advertised on Monster.com. You state that Michael’s Restaurant requires a waiter with experience in the food industry, strong customer service skills, and the ability to work under pressure. I believe I fulfill all of these requirements, and am therefore an excellent candidate for the position.

I have an extensive background in the food industry. I worked for two years at a fast-food restaurant. During this time I gained experience in nearly every aspect of food service. I took orders and served customers their meals, handled the cash register, and performed daily inventory checks. As a waiter for Michael’s Restaurant, I could therefore assist not only in taking orders and serving customers, but also in a variety of other capacities in which you might need assistance.

I have also worked in customer service for years. As a cashier at a grocery store for two years, I assisted as many as one hundred customers daily; I not only helped people bag groceries and make payments, but I also offered assistance in finding obscure products and effectively using our coupons. At Riley’s Fast Food Joint, I also interacted with dozens of customers each day; I always made sure to provide clear and thorough answers to questions about our meal options and the cost of items. I know I could bring this friendly, helpful customer service to a position as a waiter at Michael’s Restaurant.

Finally, I work my best under pressure, and believe I would thrive in your restaurant’s fast-paced environment. Working at the grocery store and fast food restaurant, I grew accustomed to serving dozens if not hundreds of people daily. Despite the crowds and long lines, I always maintained my quality customer service. As the captain of my high school swim team, I also learned to handle extreme pressure. For example, when a teammate was injured during a swim meet, I coolly helped reorganize the team and put a new swimmer in his place. I was always the one my teammates turned to in stressful situations, and I know I would be equally cool, calm and collected as a waiter. My experience in the food industry and in customer service, and my ability to thrive under pressure make me an excellent candidate for your waiter position.

I have enclosed my resume, and will call within the next week to see if we might arrange a time to speak together. Thank you so much for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Damian Finkle 123 Elm Street Albany, NY 12224 c: (518) (555 -1234) e: damian.finkle@college.edu
